Home Energy Savings

The Home Energy Savings Program is available to customers of participating UAMPS energy partners. Home Energy Savings offers cash incentives to customers who purchase energy efficient appliances and lighting fixtures from participating retailers.

Why buy energy efficient appliances?
Get cash back when you purchase a qualifying clothes washer, refrigerator, dishwasher, room A/C unit, water heater, or lighting fixtures. Plus you’ll save money on your energy bill year after year, and help the environment!

Click below to learn more about energy-efficient appliances:

CLOTHES WASHERS

Get $50 for purchasing an energy efficient clothes washer!

Why buy?
Purchase a qualified clothes washer and you could use up to 40% less energy and 40% less water than with a conventional machine. That's equal to saving 7,800 gallons of water a year - more than most people drink in a lifetime. Plus, they extract more water from clothes during the spin cycle, reducing drying time, saving both energy, water and wear & tear on clothes.

What's my incentive?
$50 cash back on qualifying models with a MEF of 3.2 or higher and WF of 4.5 or lower*.

*Modified Energy Factor (MEF) is a calculation used to compare the relative efficiency of clothes washers, Water Factor (WF) is the water performance metric that allows the comparison of clothes washers water consumption independent of clothes washer capacity; the lower the value, the more efficient the clothes washer.

DISHWASHERS

Get $20 back on qualified dishwasher.

Why buy?
Qualified dishwashers use 25% less energy and up to 45% less water. That means that replacing a dishwasher manufactured just 10 years ago with a qualifying model can save you more than $25 a year in energy costs.

What is my incentive?
$20 on qualifying machines with a Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) Tier 1 (standard models)*.

ELECTRIC WATER HEATERS

$50 cash back for energy efficient electric water heaters!

Why buy?
After heating or cooling, heating your water can be the biggest energy user in your home. Most water heaters lose energy through the walls of the tank, even when no hot water is being used. New energy efficient storage water heaters are better insulated, which means less wasted energy and lower bills. Plan ahead! Water heaters fail with almost no warning, so start thinking about your next water heater before you need one. Consider replacing your water heater if it is leaking, or if it is more than 7 years old.

COOL CASH PROGRAM

If you are thinking about adding or replacing air conditioning in your home, our Cool Cash Incentive Program can help you select just the right system for your needs, while saving energy and money!

For example, we know that many Utah families believe upgrading air conditioning means moving from a rooftop evaporative cooler to central air conditioning. But Utah's climate is ideal for evaporative cooling. Evaporative cooling is no longer confined to rooftops. Evaporative systems can be installed indoors, and vented throughout your house through existing vents (called whole-house evaporative cooling). Evaporative cooling will create significant savings on your summer electricity costs compared to central air conditioning. Because evaporative systems save energy, participating UAMPS energy partners are offering cash incentives when you purchase a new, replacement, premium, or whole-house evaporative system.

However, if you are planning on installing a central air conditioning system, proper equipment, installation, operation and maintenance will make a big difference in the level of efficiency, and therefore cost of your new system. So participating UAMPS energy partners will offer incentives for high efficiency appliances, properly sized and properly installed systems.

Learn more about energy-efficient cooling systems:

EVAPORATIVE COOLING

You could receive $400 for replacement of an existing cooler, or $400 for a first-time installation evaporative cooler. Additional incentives are available for premium and whole-house ducted systems.

For a list of participating UAMPS partners CLICK HERE.

Why buy evaporative cooling?
Evaporative coolers use as much as 75% less electricity as central air conditioning. Plus, they act as air fiters, trapping some dust and pollen. In addition, innovations in evaporative cooling technology gives customers options that are more effective and efficient than ever before.

What is my incentive?
Cash incentive range from $400 to $1000 for qualifying products.

Equipment Requirements for Evaporative Coolers
Replacement and new evaporative cooling equipment must have a minimum industry standard rating of 2500 CFM. Premium evaporative equipment must be indirect/direct, or single-inlet direct evaporative system that delivers cooling through a whole-house distribution system. For the purpose of the program, a whole-house distribution system will be defined as a ducted system with a point of delivery, or register, of each occupied room within the dwelling. Customers installing a new whole-house distribution system with a non-premium evaporative cooler will qualify under the New Evaporative incentive tier.

CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING

Three measures for central air conditioners will qualify you to receive an incentive-proper sizing of equipment for your specific square footage, proper installation by a qualified dealer, and purchase of a high-efficiency CAC appliance. Customers of participating UAMPS energy partners can qualify for any single or combination of these measures when they meet the equipment requirements outlined in the incentive application materials.

LIGHT BULB EFFICIENCY STANDARDS

Energy Security & Independent Act of 2007 (EISA)
New performance standards for general purpose light bulbs
Requires light bulbs to deliver a minimum amount of light per unit of energy consumed
Mandates 25% increase in lumen per watt efficiency over current incandescent technology

The standard will be phased in between 2012 and 2014

Other Facts:
EISA is NOT a ban on incandescent bulbs nor is it a purchase ban. EISA is technology neutral and is a ban on manufacturing and shipment of inefficient products. There are 22 special purpose light bulb types that are exempted.

EISA COMPLIANT TECHNOLOGIES:

HALOGEN:

  • Currently available new infrared halogen may be twice as efficient as standard incandescent
  • Will be priced below CFLs currently meeting EISA requirements - 72 watt, 53 watt, 43 watt, and 28 watt CFLs
  • Surpass EISA requirements
  • Still have some light quality and proper application challenges
  • Still have mercury and need to be recycled

LEDS:

  • Surpass EISA requirements
  • CONS - higher cost and newer technology
  • Commercial fixtures need to be 25% more efficient. Only more energy efficient electronic ballasts are currently being manufactured. T-12 linear lamps are being phased out and replaced with more efficient T-8.
