Intermountain Power Agency ("IPA") is a political subdivision of the State of Utah and was organized ib 1977 by 23 Utah Members. The Intermountain Power Project ("IPP") is currently in operation and includes a two-unit, coal-fired, steam electric generating station, having a net capability of 1,800 MW. The Department of Water and Power of the City of Los Angeles ("LADWP") is the operating agent for IPP. The generation station is located near Lynndyl, Utah, approximately 100 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.
The Utah Purchasers and Cooperative Purchasers entered into Excess Power Sales Agreements providing for the sale of all or part of their IPP capability to four of the California Purchasers: LADWP, Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena. Under the provisions of the Excess Power Sales Agreement, the Utah Purchasers and Cooperative Purchasers may elect to recall portions or all of their entitlement to the capability of IPP on a seasonal basis. UAMPS acts as agent for the Utah Purchasers and Cooperative Purchasers under the Excess Power Sales Agreement.
All of the 23 Utah Purchasers are Members of UAMPS, and they have established the IPP Project within UAMPS to coordinate and optimize the utilization of their capacity entitlements in IPP.
